GOBLET-SHAPED DRUM (With resonators)
Mali
Membranophone

In this case we are in the presence of an interesting interpretation of the drum. Two slightly concave metal plates, which act as resonators, have been fixed to an instrument with the classic goblet silhouette, with a single skin and with a wide circular membrane fixed to the wooden body with cords and braces. Some iron rings have also been applied to the metal plates by means of a series of holes. By strongly beating the drum, with the hands or with the appropriate sticks, in addition to the sound produced by the vibration of the membrane there is that produced by the stress of the metal plates, with an effect of rhythmic reinforcement. In their turn the plates can be beaten directly, creating a special alternation of the timbre.
