TBILAT Furnace drums
Marocco
Membranofoni

The Tbilat furnace drums are used in pairs. They are made of richly decorated pottery and skin. The membranes are stretched by plaited gut cords. The Agoual are single-skin goblet-shaped drums, with a more elongated shape. In these drums of Arabic origin, the skins used for the membranes are commonly from sheep. The instruments, placed on the ground between the legs, are played with both hands. However, the Agoual is often held under one arm and beaten with the other hand. The variations in the timbre are obtained by beating the skins near the edge or in the middle, or by varying the pressure of the palm on the skin.
