RATTLE
Egypt
Idiophone

This is a rattle for dancing. It is usually used in a pair with another one, practically identical. The rattles of this type are generally made up of a sort of shaped handle grip, in this case of dark wood, to which is attached a piece of wire forming a support in the form of an arch. The rattle has five small spherical bronze objects, which the wire goes through and which, twisted on itself, holds them in their place. The sound is produced both by shaking the single rattle (each sphere contains a metal clapper) and by percussion of these, with themselves or other instruments or directly on to the various parts of the body.
