QARQABA Crotala
Marocco
Idiophone

These are rhythmic instruments (GNAWA) widely used in accompanying dances. They are generally made of forged or unrefined iron. Of varying circumference and thickness, they vaguely recall the much better known Spanish castanets in use as well as in their shape. In this case, they are made in a figure of 8, with four superimposed crotala in pairs of two.
