Very common in Middle and Far Eastern music, these are small metal plates, made from heavy alloys such as: brass, bronze, copper and more rarely silver. According to their size, diameter and the special characteristics of the chosen metal, they produce a sound of varying brightness. They can be used in various ways; in general they are joined together, in pairs, by string. In Africa, metal idiophones are not very common, including those of the bell type (more familiar to us) which are preferably made of wood. The engraving on these small finger cymbals (their diameter is only a few centimetres) show more of a Middle Eastern than African influence. The slight concentric step-like embossing contributes to defining the sound of this type of instrument.
