A Ugandan chordophone belonging to the category of the harp. Made of wood, it has an ovoid box covered with hide. A curved neck which holds the key regulating the tension of the strings is attached to the box. Models of this kind often have a rattle inside the soundbox and ornamental rings, traditionally made of snake skin, between one peg and the next. It is played by holding the soundbox to the chest and the knees of the musician, who plucks the strings with his fingers. The size varies according to the use to be made of the harp: the smaller ones, with a sharper sonority, are used for the soloist's part, the larger ones (as the one on display) are the accompaniment.
